Leadership for Faster Growth

Leadership for faster growth: Move the focus from “getting stuff done” to a performing team

I currently work with high-growth companies, enhancing their sales and marketing structures, processes, and teams to go after double-digit growth opportunities.

My AHA observation is:

·       Successful leaders seek to build teams to perform.

·       Struggling leaders want to get stuff done.

If you have stalled as a company or a division, you are still in “command and control”. FULL STOP. The company, division or team has flatlined because you got stuck in the weeds.

Weeds mean bureaucracy. Bureaucracy saps energy and focus.

“Doing instead of thinking” leaves Leaders inhibited and risk-averse.

To reverse this trend, ask yourself.

Do you want to just “get stuff done” or build a team with a success mindset?

A true leader is a person who people follow because they want to.

  • Do you want your High Potential people to take over from you?
  • Do you actively seek out and cultivate their potential?
  • Do you focus on harnessing strengths, and connect them with the company's success?
  • Do your team even know the criteria for success and their performance on these?
  • Do you lose people from your team?

Skill shortages keep many CEOs awake at night as they attempt to scale and,

6 in 10 employees cite poor management as a primary reason for leaving.

Their boss didn’t have a clear idea of success, so they couldn’t tell them.

Their boss was under so much pressure they couldn’t lead or it rained down on them.

“There” is the gap!

As a leader you have to get uncomfortable and accept everyone has flaws.  Ask yourself tough questions about your leadership style and your role as a mentor/coach to your team.

On a scale of 1 to 10, how would you rate yourself as a leader? And how do you think your employees would rate you?

Well, be brave and ask them!
